And time and time again, I see the same pattern, people who are trying so hard to be healthier, leaner, and more balanced, but are left feeling confused, burnt out, or stuck in the cycle of yo-yo dieting.
So today, I’m sharing the 3 nutrition shifts I believe will change your health, and your mindset, for good. These aren’t quick fixes. They’re the long-term strategies that truly move the needle.
Dial Up to Dial Down
If you want to feel leaner, lighter, and healthier, start by cleaning up what’s on your plate.
Ditch the junk and crowd your meals with colourful veggies, quality protein, fruit, wholegrains, nuts, and seeds.
No need to count calories or stress over fruit sugar or “carbs.” Just eat real, unprocessed food.
Because when you dial up the nutrition, you dial down the number on the scales.
Plate Ratios Count
Once your nutrition’s cleaned up, it’s time to focus on balance.
Build your meals around plants and protein, then add a serve healthy fat and a small amount of unrefined carbs.
Aim for 3–5 cups of veggies and 3 serves of protein each day.
You don’t need to cut carbs or fat completely to drop body fat, it’s all about the ratios on your plate.
Portion over Perfection
Once you have cleaned up your nutrition, and have your plate ratio’s under control, you can start reducing portions. Again, don’t cut out whole food groups you just want to pull back on volume. I recommend eating off a smaller plate and limit snacks to 1 per day.
On weekends or when eating out, don’t stress about getting it perfect! If the food selection is out of your control, simply do your best to get some form of veggies on the plate and focus your attention to portion control. Portions trump perfection when eating out.
Of course, every client is unique, and I always tailor my nutrition and lifestyle recommendations after a thorough one-on-one health assessment in clinic.
But if you’re not able to see me right now—and you’re feeling stuck with your nutrition—I encourage you to start with these three strategies. Make them your new normal. They’re simple, sustainable, and I guarantee they’ll shift not just your results, but your whole relationship with food for the better.
