What’s Really Inside Your Easter Bunny? A Sweet-but-Smart Treat Guide

With Easter just around the corner, I thought I’d share a fun little review of some of the most popular Easter treats making the rounds this year - plus a few of my personal favourites.

Whether you’re into rich dark chocolate, classic milk, or something a little more nostalgic (hello, Red Tulip), I’ve taken a closer look at what’s inside each bunny or bun – because let’s be honest, a little nutrition insight never hurts.

Below you’ll find a light-hearted breakdown of what you’re really biting into… along with my Health Whisperer perspective on how to enjoy these seasonal treats without the sugar spiral.

pattern

Cadbury Dairy Milk Bunny

Smooth, creamy, and wrapped in that unmistakable purple foil, the Cadbury Dairy Milk Bunny is as iconic to Aussie Easters as backyard egg hunts and hot cross buns.

  • Energy: 2270 kJ per 100g
  • Sugar: 54.8 %
Health Whisperer Insight:

Sweet enough to fuel a bunny hop marathon. Enjoy in moderation, especially if you’re not actually planning on running a marathon.

Lindt Gold Bunny (Milk Chocolate)

Dressed to impress in gold foil and always a crowd favourite.

  • Energy: 2270 kJ per 100g
  • Sugar: 54 %
Health Whisperer Insight:

Luxury taste, luxury price, and luxury sugar levels to match. Unwrap slowly… and maybe share with someone you *really* like.

Red Tulip Chocolate Bunny

The OG of Easter nostalgia – whether you love it or… politely re-gift it.

  • Energy: 2230 kJ per 100g
  • Sugar: 62.6 %
Health Whisperer Insight:

The sugar queen of the bunny bunch. My teeth ache just thinking about it. If this one’s your jam, maybe just nibble the ears and call it a day?

Cadbury Old Gold Easter Bunny

Dark, mysterious, and a little bitter – like my morning coffee.

  • Energy: 2300 kJ per 100g
  • Sugar: 50.3 %
Health Whisperer Insight:

Don’t befooled by the dark chocolate label, this bunny’s still got a sweet streak. Better than milk choc, but definitely not a health food.

Lindt Dark Chocolate Bunny

Elegant, rich, and smooth – aka the George Clooney of chocolate.

  • Energy: 2330 kJ per 100g
  • Sugar: 35%
Health Whisperer Insight:

This one’s my pick of the bunch. Still indulgent, but lower in sugar and far more satisfying than its sweeter counterparts.

Spiced Fruit Hot Cross Buns

Soft, spicy, and studded with fruit. Basically the warm hug of Easter.

  • Energy: 905 kJ per 100g
  • Sugar: 16.7%
Health Whisperer Insight:

My personal favourite and a healthier option - lower in refined sugar and providing a whole lot more fibre. Toast it, butter it, love it! Bonus points if you add a slather of ricotta or nut butter.

Easter is a time to celebrate, connect, and yes enjoy a little chocolate along the way.

Whether you’re all about the dark stuff, a milk chocolate purist, or someone who can’t resist a hot cross bun slathered in butter (me) remember this:

You don’t need to be perfect, just a little more mindful. A treat enjoyed with awareness is far better than guilt or restriction. So go ahead, pick your favourite, savour every bite, and hop back into balance with your very next meal.
